Whitechapel gallery – Elmgreen & Dragset

I really enjoyed this exhibition particularly The Whitechapel Pool, an installation of an abandoned swimming pool. I love how much detail they went in to, with cracked tiles, dirt and a collapsing ceiling, I also really liked how they created a story to go along with it, describing how the once loved pool was now being bought by investors to create a luxury hotel. The whole piece is a comment on the extreme gentrification of East London and the loosing of communities.

Udders in the fridge

I wanted to look further into our relationship with cows and the way we use them to produce milk. UK dairy farmers produce around 14 billion litres of milk each year for either drinking or to go into dairy products. Milk or things with milk in are a massive part of our diet yet when we put it in our tea or have some cheese on toast we don’t tend to think about where it comes from. This is why I thought it would be interesting to bring the udders into the home.

Cow udders

I started to experiment with the idea of udders, I blew up plastic gloves and attached them together, although I initially wanted to create realistic looking udder sculptures I really liked the shapes and decided to make the sculptures a lot more abstract.

I wanted to experiment with the shapes putting them in different environments and also placing them on my body, making them appear like growths or extra limbs.

The ideas I focused on to were David bowie’s androgyny fashion, cows and the milk we get from them.  Researching more into cows I became interested in the shape of their udders how they bulge out and look as if they could burst, particularly when farmers choose to put hormones into their cattle which makes there udders grow bigger and in turn produce more milk.Image result for big cow udder

Collaboration Project – Creative Collection

For this project we first started by discussing things we were interested in or passionate about, after brain storming a few different ideas the ones the group was all drawn to were personality and sensory overload. we liked the idea of celebrating everyones different personalities but also the concept of a sensory immersive experience. we decided to create an immersive personality experience based on the 5 main personality traits: openness, agreeableness, extraversion, consciousness and neuroticism, to go along with this we looked into colour psychology and matched each trait to a suitable colour.

openness – yellow

extraversion – red

consciousness – black and white

agreeableness – green

nneuroticism –  grey

The main part of our creative collection was an event with a different room for each of the traits, each room would be an immersive experience with things like animals, water installations and fully intensely decorated. To go along with the event we made a garment which incorporated the traits, we photographed the garment to use to publicise our event and put on the invitations. c62d75b5-55dc-406b-960d-f8e83732308f.jpg

Strange Days – 180 the strand

I recently visited ‘Strange Days’ at 180 The Strand, showcasing film installations, I really liked the curation of the exhibition and I enjoyed walking through all the rooms, like a journey. Each of the films had a different physical space enabling the viewer to focus upon the pieces and become absorbed. Pipilotti Rist’s, ‘4th Floor to Mildness’, films have an underwater immersive feel and are displayed on the ceiling as the viewers lay on beds beneath, the effect was both relaxing and hypnotic. This exhibition taught me how films can be displayed in much more dynamic and interesting ways.

Game project

For this project my group decided we wanted to make a fun interactive game, we also decided that we wanted to make it a drinking game. We thought that a drinking games pub would be a fun popular concept particularly for pree drinking.

When we were discussing games we liked or enjoyed playing as kids one stood out: kerplunk. So we decided to adapt this game to make it a drinking game.

We also decided to enlarge the game, have a 60s theme and add balloons instead of marbles. Inside the balloons we had questions all based around the 60s, so players would pop them. If you got the questions wrong you would have to have a drink.

Questions and drinks = points

And the winner is the one in the end who had the most points!
